The Outaouais region is located in southwestern Québec. The Ottawa River separates it from the federal capital, Ottawa, and constitutes a natural border between Ontario and Québec. This region is a harmonious combination of dynamic city living and the wilderness of the great outdoors.

Economy and employment

The Outaouais’ economy is based in great part on public administration. Outaouais is also an important high-tech centre. Its growth in this sector is one of the strongest in North America. It is also remarkable for its excellence in wood production and processing, its agricultural vitality, its varied recreational tourism activities and its language industry. Strategically located, the region offers easy and rapid access to major business centres.

Outaouais ranks first among all of Québec’s regions for the proportion of exporting businesses in the high-tech sector.
